Garage - A.W. Clarke & Sons

Taken in the 1970's when a Shell Petrol Garage

In 1928 G.M. Miller and A.W. Clarke opened a garage in Parkes St, trading as Trundle Motors. Their business was situated in a portion of the premises which had been a blacksmiths shop. In 1933 the partnership was dissolved and A.W. Clarke continued on his own until 1948 when he took his sons, Albert, Ray and Bill into the business.

The business was operated as A.W. Clarke and Sons until sold to  Colin Grinter in


Taken in the 1930's of Ray Melrose from the Shell Depot in Parkes refuelling the garage. The Clarke children Ray, Bill and Joyce are helping with the delivery.

In the earlier days the garage sold several brands of petrol from the pumps. During the thirties there were Atlantic, Vaccum and Shell pumps. Later Ampol and Neptune and pumps were added.

In the late fifties the garage went to a single brand of petrol companies changed there country distribution networks.  The garage probably changed to ESSO then Shell and BP over the later years.
