Bush Tucker Day - Change of Venue

The Trundle Bush Tucker Day committee would like to advise a change of venue of Bush Tucker Day this Saturday 4th September 2010. The festival will now be held at the Trundle Memorial Hall in the main street of Trundle.

With weather forecasts predicting rain, it was decided that the hall offers a great space for the live music – which begins at 9.45 am and goes through until midnight. Visitors will be assured of a dry space and a more intimate venue to enjoy the country hospitality that Trundle continues to offer.

With what is surely one of the most impressive line–up of musicians in the 23 year history of Trundle Bush Tucker Day, music lovers of all ages and persuasions will be treated to a massive day of entertainment! The headline act ‘Simply Bushed’ is performing for the first time at Trundle Bush Tucker Day. For more than 18 years, this Sydney based band has been revisiting the music that many Australians grew up with. By adding their own modern, infectious twist, ‘Simply Bushed’ has made Australia’s traditional music accessible and relatable to all ages. However, the entertainment does begin very early in the day with some good old fashioned boot scooting sure to bring out the best in the crowd. After a few quick lessons and tips, there is no doubt that those that aren’t sweating it out amongst the cooking area will be toe tapping and swinging their partners around after this show case of boot scooting!

In a special treat for both locals and visitors alike, ‘The Millers Tale’ will also make their Bush Tucker Day debut. Based in Sydney and formerly of Melbourne, this folk-pop duo will perform a mix of both original tunes and covers. Golden Guitar winner Steve Passfield has certainly “paid his dues” and is no stranger to local music lovers, having played with the band ‘Handpicked’ at the recent Trundle Show Centenary Ball. He is the leader and driving force behind this band, which went on to tour much of Australia, Asia and New Zealand. Other notable artists to perform at this year’s Trundle Bush Tucker day include up and coming artist Margie Mae, while Peter Riley will perform both solo and later in the evening with the band ‘Rock Bottom’ to ensure the whole day’s entertainment ends on a high note. The MC for the day – The Rhymer from Ryde – will be entertaining the crowd throughout the day with bush poetry and amusing anecdotes.

Other events that have been planned will continue (weather permitting) with the cooking competition offering $1000 in prize money for the most outstanding dish presented.

Unfortunately the dog trials, vintage tractor display and damper throw will be postponed this year, due to the change of venue. Campers at the showground will be offered a shuttle bus to transport them to and from the new venue. The organization for this year’s event is certainly in full swing, with many committee members working tirelessly, behind the scenes, to ensure that the Trundle Bush Tucker Day is a great weekend for everyone. Congratulations, and thank you in advance, to the hard working people that are putting so much into this year’s event. It certainly is a team effort and shows the amazing work that can be done by a small community, such as Trundle.

To ensure the whole community benefits, and maximize the money raised, (which stays in our town to support our community groups and charities) there are loads of new ideas and events to be held this year.

If you have a great idea and can’t make it to a meeting, just send an email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We’ll be happy to discuss your suggestion at our next meeting, on Wednesday, 14th July at the Trundle Services & Citizens Club.

Polish up on your bush skills in time for this year’s Bush Tucker Day

With so much prize money on offer, now is the time to start refining your bush skills in preparation for this year’s Trundle Bush Tucker Day. There has to be an event for you:

Do your skills lie in starting a fire from scratch in order to boil water in a billy?

Are you able to teach a dog new tricks and have it round up sheep in front of a crowd?

Is food your forte? It’s time to start developing a dish that will knock the socks off our judges – with $1000 on offer, why not give it a go? Just remember to cook using traditional bush methods.

Can you run, jump, push, lift and laugh all at the same time? Then the Bushman’s relay is for you.

Speaking of strength, gather a team together for the Tug-o-War and you might take the title for 2010. There’s both a men and women’s section so be sure to start getting a team together.

If throwing is more your style then it’s time to pull out the damper and start seeing how far you can launch a damper.

Or if you are more artistic, then the Bush Hat competition should take your interest – all you need to do is create a masterpiece on a hat!

For further information on any of the competitions, including rules, don’t hesitate to email the committee at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Everyone is more than welcome to attend the monthly Bush Tucker Day meeting this Wednesday night at 7pm at the Trundle Hotel.

Inaugural ‘Master Chef’ cooking demonstration

With so many talented bush cooks competing in the major cooking competition at Trundle Bush Tucker Day each year, it seemed like the ideal time to join the excitement of the ‘Master Chef’ phenomenon and take traditional bush cooking to the next level!

For the first time in the 23 year history of Trundle Bush Tucker Day, a ‘Master Chef’ style bush cooking demonstration will take place. 7 teams have been hand picked to showcase their cooking skills in a timed event, with the winner to take out the inaugural ‘Trundle Hotel Bush Tucker Day Master Chef ’ award.

It will be fantastic to see the various methods used by skilled cooks to produce mouth watering dishes using traditional bush methods.

In a very exciting announcement, world recognised ‘Herbie’s Spices’ are co-sponsoring the event with their donation of traditional native bush herbs and spices, which will be incorporated into each dish. These ingredients will only be revealed to the contestants on the day, which must be used to create the ultimate bush feast! Traditional bush cooking methods will be used by the entrants, including the use of coals.

‘Hillbilly Camping Gear’, who have long been supporters of Trundle Bush Tucker Day, are also involved in this new event, by generously donating cooking utensils and cookware, which will be used by the contestants to create their dish. The winner of the event will be fortunate to take home all cooking goods, including skillets, frying pans and a wok, that have been donated by co-sponsors ‘Hillbilly Camping Gear’

The event will be emceed and judged by local identities, which is sure to provide added humour and entertainment in an already action packed day. In an exciting year for Trundle, following the enormous success of the 100th Annual Trundle Show, locals are looking forward to again sharing their community hospitality with many visitors from far and wide.
